Washington, D.C. — In a historic first for global health and philanthropy, maternal and newborn health has been elevated as a central priority across Muslim giving during Ramadan, unlocking an unprecedented $91 million in just one month.
Led by Every Pregnancy, the world’s first Zakat-approved Muslim collaborative dedicated exclusively to maternal and newborn health, this breakthrough represents a fundamental shift in how communities mobilize to address one of the most urgent and historically underfunded global health challenges.
Every Pregnancy unites a coalition of more than 50 frontline organizations working across 20+ countries to ensure that every mother has a safe pregnancy and every baby has a healthy start. Through a catalytic, community-driven funding model, the coalition is transforming how resources flow to the frontlines, prioritizing maternal health at a scale never seen before in faith-based giving.
The Ramadan 2026 campaign marks a defining milestone, not only for Every Pregnancy, but for the future of maternal health financing. Through a $9 million Boost Fund, the campaign catalyzed over 192,000 donors globally and activated more than 50 frontline organizations, resulting in a more than tenfold return on philanthropic capital.
Since the launching of the For Mama campaign in 2024, the coalition has raised nearly $130 million for maternal and newborn programs worldwide.
This is not simply a successful campaign. It is proof that maternal health, long overlooked and underfunded, can become a global priority when communities are mobilized with purpose, trust, and the right structure to give.
For the first time, maternal and newborn health was not a peripheral cause, it was the cause. And the response was overwhelming.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 700 women die every day from preventable pregnancy-related causes, with over 80 percent of these deaths avoidable through timely, evidence-based care. The majority occur in low-income and crisis-affected settings, where access to maternal health services remains limited. Despite this, maternal health has historically received a fraction of global health funding.
This campaign signals a turning point.
Every Pregnancy’s approach represents a new paradigm: catalytic investment that unlocks community-driven giving at scale, rooted in trust, faith, and shared purpose.
By bringing together Muslim-led organizations to work collectively rather than independently, the model shifts from fragmented efforts to coordinated impact, ensuring that maternal health is not only funded, but prioritized.
“This is more than a fundraising milestone, it is a redefinition of what our community chooses to stand for,” said Isra Chaker, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Every Pregnancy. “For too long, maternal health has been invisible in global funding conversations, despite the fact that hundreds of women die every single day from causes we know how to prevent. Every Pregnancy is changing that.
We witnessed a collective awakening, where mothers were no longer an afterthought, but the very center of our giving. What we have built is not just a campaign, it is a movement. A movement that proves that when you trust communities, when you give them a clear and compelling way to act, they will rise beyond what anyone thought possible. This $91 million is not just funding, it represents millions of moments of care, of safe deliveries, of lives saved. It is the beginning of a future where maternal death is no longer accepted as inevitable, but treated as unacceptable. And this is only the beginning.”
A Movement Powered by Partnership
The campaign brought together more than 50 organizations across the globe, all aligned around a single mission: to make every pregnancy safe.
“Our participation in this coalition has enabled us to significantly expand our maternal health programming,” said Mazen Mokhtar, CEO of Baitulmaal. “Through this partnership, we opened the Baitulmaal Hope Hospital in Mogadishu, improving access to maternity care in Somalia. By working collectively, we have amplified both our reach and our impact. Every Pregnancy demonstrates what is possible when organizations unite around a shared mission.”
“Because of this coalition, a mother fleeing violence does not have to give birth alone,” said Dr. Zaher Sahloul, President of MedGlobal. “We have witnessed mothers survive the unsurvivable. We have seen midwives become heroes in their communities. This is what coordinated, compassionate action makes possible.”
Looking Ahead
As maternal health takes its place as a priority within global Muslim philanthropy, Every Pregnancy is building on this momentum to further scale its coalition, deepen impact across countries, and continue advancing a model that is both equitable and transformative.
This moment marks a breakthrough, not just in funding, but in collective consciousness.
